I was in my office scrolling Facebook on my lunch hour when I saw the post — Ropers Sports News would be releasing their last issue.
What would this mean for the WTRA? How would the ladies track the standings? How do we get around the “where was the roping advertised” requirement for claiming winnings? I had a lot of questions with only one answer…I needed to dig in with both hands, volunteer my skillset, and help provide a solution that would move the WTRA into this century.
I had already been talking with WTRA President, Donna Mahoney, about how I could help give the WTRA new life. I offered to build this website, create sponsorship packets, develop an app, and manage the social media.
The reality is that sometimes it feels like team roping on the west coast is dying on the vine. I don’t accept that. I can’t. Team roping is not only my passion, but my lifestyle. It’s where I network. It’s how I relax. It’s how I have fun.
I remember when I was much younger, the WTRA was the place to be. The women involved were having fun, roping, winning, and being awarded incredible prizes.
Then covid hit and it seemed as though everything was crumbling. Because there were no ropings, there was no WTRA. In 2023, Donna decided to bring it back.
It has been an uphill battle and we are far from where we want to be, but we know that if we stick with it and continue to progress, this association can grow even bigger and better than what it was in days passed.
Here are some changes that you can look forward to through the new site:
- Digital Membership Form
- Digital Win Sheets
- Event Calendar
- Digital Win Sheet Submittal
- News, Updates, and Standings
For those of you who have stuck with us through regrowth, THANK YOU! We are looking forward to rebuilding this association and rewarding women ropers for kicking butt!
